Yung Garfield is a rapper, producer and Flex Entertainment Executive. He was signed to Flex Entertainment in the April of 2019. Taking his gimmick from classic cartoon character Garfield, he is noted for his leftfield music, zany antics and a... distinctive visual art style that shows on his cover arts and other promotional material, He departed from the label in early January 2021 and died a month after on February 9, 2021. He was revived and signed back to Flex Entertainment on April 3, 2021. He soon departed from the label once more, before signing again on June 25. He currently holds the Flex Entertainment Official Record for the most times to leave and join the label.

He is known for his interesting lyrical musings about Beans, 2PAC, Fortnite, and other subjects he tackles with such divine word crafting, it would make Friedrich Nietzsche cry a tear. He is also known for his hit singles "Cosby," "My Mom Beat Me," "New Beans," and "Better Flex Charts." His debut album "BOMBOCLAAT" was released on September 11, 2020. He has released 2 mixtapes, "Super Gar-Gar", "Water Lasagna" & a so-called EP "Super Gar-Gar World".

Music career[]

2019-2020: Signing to Flex Entertainment and "Super Gar-Gar"[]

Yung Garfield started working on satirical rap in September of 2018. Yung Garfield later joined Flex in April of 2019, He released a few singles here and there which would then lead up to his first album titled 'Super Gar Gar' Released March 27, 2020. The album received negative reviews.

2020-present: Breakthrough and "BOMBOCLAAT"[]

Garfield announced that he planned on releasing a three-part series of albums called "BOMBOCLAAT" in the latter half of 2020. However, the album was intended to be a single album rather than multiple. On June 11, 2020, he released the lead single "Cosby" which featured rapper and internet meme Viper, an artist with a great influence on many of the artists on the label. It has become his most successful single to date, debuting at No. 13 on the Flex Entertainment Hot 100. It went on to peak at No. 12. The song's initial chart debut caused a lot of controversies in which its big Spotify numbers weren't counted due to the lack of access to the data. Garfield accused the charts of being "rigged." The chart's owner Beetlebat denied the claims and blamed Garfield for not submitting the numbers himself as he had no access.

On June 29, 2020, Yung Garfield left Flex Entertainment as he felt like the serious artists were outshining the satirical artists and didn't feel like he belonged on the label. His farewell post ended up becoming a copypasta used by Kardia to leave the label. He ended up returning to the label again on July 3, 2020. A remix of "Cosby" with fellow Flex Entertainment artists Big Baller B and Lil Squeaky was released on July 3.

Garfield released two more singles for BOMBOCLAAT. "New Beans" featuring Lil Squeaky and John which was initially included on the Flex Gang Vol. 2 compilation album. However, that version was a heavily edited version in which John was renamed Johnn Johnn and many tweaks were made to the instrumental, including a guitar solo at the end by former Flex artist Willberto. The original version was released only a couple days earlier, and most fans agree that the original version is superior to the version seen on Flex Gang Vol. 2. The single peaked at number 13 on the Flex Entertainment Hot 100. The third single for "BOMBOCLAAT" was "Better Flex Charts," featuring Emily Finchum. The song also contains uncredited features from Chad Kroeger, Juice WRLD, and Viper. Chad Kroeger was credited at first, but his credit was removed due to the feature actually being a sample, causing controversy. The song was inspired by the beef with Beetlebat, putting his face on the cover art. However, none of the lyrics in the song relate to the Flex charts. The song peaked at number 14 on the Hot 100.

BOMBOCLAAT was released on September 11, 2020. The album received positive reviews from critics, many of whom enjoyed the absurd, over-the-top humor of the album and cited it as a one-of-a-kind listening experience. Every song on the album appeared in the Flex Entertainment Hot 100 Top 40.

Water Lasagna was released on November 13, 2020. It is Garfield's second mixtape.

He released the EP Super Gar-Gar World on December 25, 2020, which was subject to much controversy due to its 35-track length and 80 minute runtime. Hardly anyone actually listened to it because it was so long, and because Playboi Carti's long-awaited Whole Lotta Red album was released at the same time.

Yung Garfield departed from the label in February 2021. He has remained relatively quiet about his music endeavor ever since until coming back two months later. He is working on bangers.

Controversies[]

Yung Garfield's career was defined by the extreme amounts of controversy surrounding him, with most people regarding him as the single most controversial artist in the history of Flex. Many have criticized his very crude sense of humor, which they see as mere shock value.

Yung Garfield and Lil Mosquito Disease engaged in a heated beef because Garfield was being annoying in Minecraft, and damaged Mosquito's prized "Mosquito Mansion". Mosquito immediately kicked him from Flex and banned him from the server in a fit of rage, before letting him back in to quell the drama. Mosquito has since repeatedly stated that the beef was staged, and that everyone was "jebaited," but Garfield has argued that the beef was not staged and that Mosquito was actually angry at him over Minecraft. Most people agree with Garfield on this issue.

Yung Garfield was almost kicked from Flex in summer 2020 due to listing Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger as a featured artist on his single "Better Flex Charts," which horrified the executives. They aggressively forced him to remove the feature, which he did immediately. He later put the feature back on, which reignited their anger and threats, and he was forced to remove it again.

Garfield and Lil Squeaky said they were considering leaving Flex in May 2020, due to what they felt was increasing corruption and executives trying to censor the artists and their creativity. They were exposed and subsequently accused of being traitors for a very short time. Garfield eventually did leave Flex in June 2020, and most people respected his decision and wished him well. However, Lil Mosquito Disease accused him of only leaving because "Garfield hates him," and Mosquito continued to berate Garfield. Garfield ended up joining the label again mere days later because the two reconciled their disputes.

Yung Garfield's song "Cosby" featuring Viper was a runaway success, nearly cracking the top 10 on the Hot 100 in its first week of tracking. However, despite highly increased engagement on its music video after Brad Taste in Music, or Big Baller B, shouted the song out, the song fell significantly in its second week on the chart. This incident sparked massive backlash against the charts, which would be continue to be controversial. Beetlebat, who runs the charts, repeatedly claimed the song did worse in its second week, while Garfield has repeatedly claimed that it did better, or at the very least shouldn't have fallen as much as it did. Most of the artists in Flex sided with Garfield, while the executives backed Beetlebat.

Yung Garfield and Lil Squeaky were repeatedly accused by former C.E.O. Yung Schmoobin, of not doing their job as administrators, which prompted the two to go on a signing spree, signing anybody they could. People criticized the two for signing too many random artists who wouldn't stick around, throwing off the label's plans for Flex Gang, vol. 2.5.

Garfield and Squeaky ended up in a heated election for which one would get promoted to executive. Squeaky was winning at first, and Garfield was particularly angry about it, resulting in J Coyn Drive messaging numerous members of Flex to not vote for Squeaky. Many of these members stated that they received these messages, leading to many people accusing Garfield of unfairly trying to win the election. Garfield infamously accused Squeaky of doing nothing good for the label and called him a "douchebag." In order to stop the chaos, Mosquito promoted them both to executive, since he was afraid to confront Garfield.

Garfield in general has been the subject of much debate in the past. Due to his crude sense of humor, and general behavior that some have found tedious, or just annoying. Former Flex artist A.J. infamously called Garfield "literally the worst person I've met on this app," This has also spread to his music, due to Garfield's use of loud, distorted noises (often dubbed "ear-rape") often in surprising moments to catch the listener off-guard.
